Storage & Culinary Tips

  • Store tomatoes at room temperature out of direct sunlight. Storing in the refrigerator can degrade the texture and make them mealy. Will store for up to a week.

  • Store  tomatoes stem-side down as the “bottom” of the tomatoes are fragile when ripe and can bruise easily.

  • Fresh tomatoes are delicious sliced thickly, drizzled with good olive oil and coarse salt and eaten on a slice of good bread.

  •  If you want to preserve some for the winter, slow roast them with plenty of olive oil, garlic, and herbs and put them in a ziploc bag or jar in the freezer.

  • Or simply cut out the stem and freeze the tomatoes whole. When you need a tomato or two for sauce or soups in the winter, pull them out, run them under warm water and the skin will peel right off!

  •  If you find yourself wanting to be creative with your tomatoes, the possibilities are endless. Add them into any salad, make gazpacho, fresh salsa, a simple pasta sauce or tomato pie.
