 THE LAND + THE FARM

Kayleigh and Doug purchased the sixteen acres of land that would become home to Breadseed Farm, in September 2020.  The site has two acres of prime agricultural soil, perfect for growing veggies.  Breadseed is a one acre no-till, human-powered farm with an emphasis on ecological growing.  The farm incorporates herbs, native perennials and flowers to encourage pollinators and beneficial insects to create a more holistic farm system.  All produce is grown organically with an emphasis on regenerative soil health practices.

Breadseed Farm acknowledges that we do our work on Abenaki land. We recognize that these regenerative practices are rooted in traditional indigenous forms of agriculture.  We commit to policies and practices of cultural equity to benefit current and future generations.

Kayleigh Boyle
co-owner

Kayleigh has worked in small scale organic agriculture for over a decade, managing and mentoring staff and volunteers. Before moving Vermont, she managed Gibbet Hill Farm, during her time there she doubled farm sales while implementing no-till practices that relied only on a broadfork and a rake. Kayleigh is an avid cook, and loves to craft and create with what is grown on the farm; wreaths, flower arrangements, natural dyes, preserves, and herbal medicine.  The plan is to incorporate some of these projects into upcoming workshops and dinners on the farm. Kayleigh is excited to return to the Northeast Kingdom where she grew up, and to be a part of such a beautiful working landscape.  Kayleigh is currently the Gleaning Coordinator for Salvation Farms in Morrisville, VT.

Douglas Wolcik

co-owner

Doug holds a degree in Sustainable Agriculture with a focus on Community Food Systems from UMass Amherst.  Before moving to Vermont, Doug managed Gaining Ground Farm in Concord, Massachusetts for eight years. During this time,Doug proved himself a thought leader and visionary.  As farm manager, he monumentally increased farm production, soil health, and created the orderly 'neat as a pin' aesthetic of the farm landscape.  He is passionate about always staying on the forefront of farm innovation while staying true to the simplicity of a no-till system.   Doug has traded in the Great Salt Marsh for the Green Mountains and is loving living rurally, driving the backroads and enjoying the views at every turn. This will be his sixteenth year farming.
